Hardware, Software & Brainware
Hardware: A component that is on a computer, can be seen with the naked eye and can be touched physically. Meanwhile, examples of the hardware itself are:
Input Device (Input): Hardware used to enter (input) from the user which will be processed by the computer. Examples include: Mouse, keyboard, joystick, touchpad, light pen, barcode, scanner, microphone, and others.
Process Device: Hardware that is useful for processing input that has been provided by the user.
For example Processor. Output Device: Hardware used to display results that have been processed by the computer and then given to the user. Examples include: speakers, monitors, printers, projectors, plotters and so on.
Various types of hardware:
1. CPU (Central Processing Unit) It is a tool that functions as a data processor. The CPU contains a series of circuits that store data processing and storage instructions.
2. Monitors It is a tool that is capable of displaying text and images from data that is being processed in the CPU.
3. Keyboards The keyboard is a tool for entering data and commands into the CPU, usually consisting of a series of letters, numbers and other function keys.
4. Mouse The mouse is a tool to provide commands in processing data or editing data.
5. Printers A printer is a tool that produces data output (output) in the form of print, in the form of text or images/graphics.
6. CD-ROM Additional equipment (peripheral devices) that are capable of storing and writing data and programs via CD (Compact Disk) media. This tool is designed to be able to write and read data or programs via an optical system.
7. Compact Disk (CD) Storage media made of plastic. The process of storing and reading data using the optical system.
8. Floppy Disks A floppy disk is an additional tool for storing or writing onto a diskette or vice versa, the size commonly used is 3.5 inches.
9. Hard disk A hard disk is an additional tool for storing data in a large capacity that is magnetically coated. Currently, the development of hard disks is very fast in terms of capacity and speed of reading data. You need to know that currently hard disks are absolutely present in every computer or laptop as permanent operating system storage.
10. Scanners A scanner is a tool for entering data in the form of images or graphics and converting it into digital form so that it can be processed and combined with data in the form of text.
Software
(Software): A collection of electronic data stored and managed by a computer, electronic data stored by a computer can be in the form of a program that is useful for carrying out a command. This software cannot be held. Software in its use can be classified into 5 types, namely:
1. Operating system (Operating system)
2. Utility Programs
3. Application Program (Application
Program)
4. Package program (Package Program)
5. Programming language There are several types of software, including:
1. System software The system software is divided into 3 parts:
a. Operating system The operating system device is the most important part in running a computer device. The operating system is software that bridges between users and hardware. There are several types of operating systems including Windows, DOS, Linux, and so on. Currently, many PC types of computers use the Windows operating system
b. Auxiliary Program (utility) It is a program that functions to help the operating system as explained above, such as: anti-virus, defragmenter, diskette format, and so on.
c. Programming language It is an application that is useful for converting mathematical calculations into an application. For example the programming languages Php, Java, C++ and so on.
2. Application software
It is a device that functions to carry out various forms of office tasks such as word processing, worksheets, presentations, processing web pages, to media player devices, and so on. This has developed since the operating system was developed.
Application Software can be grouped into several sections, namely:
a. Word processing (word processor) Functions to carry out word processing, namely work related to manuscripts and various types of correspondence administration. Examples: Wordstar, Microsoft Word, Amipro, Word Perfect.
b. Number Processing (Spread Sheet) Functions to carry out work that is mostly related to numbers, such as using calculations, financial reports and graphs. Examples: Lotus 123, Quatro Pro, Microsoft Excel, Symphony, Super Calc.
c. Data processing (Data base) Functions to carry out data processing. The data can be in the form of numbers, words or a combination of numbers and words. Examples: dBase, Fox Base, Fox Pro, Clipper, MicrosoftAccess, Visual Fox Pro, Paradox and so on.
d. Multimedia Examples of multimedia applications are Winamp, Audio Pro for playing MP3 or Audio CD format music. Then RealPlayer, Xing, or Jet Audio which can be used for watching films or VCDs.
e. Communications and Internet To carry out communication between computers between two or more computers, examples are Lap Link, PC Anywhere, Procom Plus. Commonly used internet applications are for browsing, e-mail, chatting and messengers such as: Internet Explorer, Opera, MIRC, ICQ, etc. .
f. Education and Games Many software to help understand a lesson are packaged in the form of games with the aim of not being boring, for example: PC Globe, Bodyworks, Science Adventure, Reader Rabbit, and others.
g. Image Designing Specific applications include those to help engineers work, such as AutoCAD (structural drawings), Protel (electronic circuit drawings), Matlab (processing and visualization of mathematical equations), Photos Shop (image processing), and Flash (for creating WEB pages), and others .
h. Anti virus Software to eradicate viruses from computer storage devices, for example: Mc Afee, Norton Anti Virus, Panda, and others. Viruses are software created to damage computer data or programs, examples are: PC Brain, Hackers, My Heart, Pepsin, Bagle, MyDoom and others.
Brainware (User):
Humans who use or operate computers. Without brainware, a computer cannot run. So, the role of brainware here is very important so that computers can be used and operated well by their users.
