Is Indonesia Ready for the Digital Era?

New media (digital era) is a term used in the emergence of digital, internet networks, especially computer information technology.

New media is often used to describe digital technology. New media has the characteristic of being able to be manipulated, being network or internet in nature. other than the internet, such as print media, television, magazines, newspapers and others are not included in the new media category.

Mass media Switch to new media or the internet because there is a cultural shift in the delivery of information.

The ability of new media to make it easier for people to receive information more quickly, in this case the internet, has made the mass media flock to change direction.

Technological advances have forced mass media to change in conveying information. Online media (internet) in the current era is displacing mass media.

If mass media companies such as newspapers, magazines and others continue to survive without following the progress of the times in this case (the internet) then it is certain that these companies will experience setbacks because society's need to receive information has shifted to new media or the internet.

In fact, Indonesia is almost a decade late in adopting communications technology, especially the internet. With the emergence of digital culture, society is very quick to accept these technological developments. From a global perspective, Indonesia is ready to accept digital culture. Digital culture is needed to achieve positive growth in line with the progress of the era itself.

For example, in a business or company, in the current era, digital capabilities are sufficient to encourage the progress of a company, making it easier on the management side. However, if you look at it individually, there are still many Indonesian people who cannot take advantage of the emergence of digital as something positive.

Many people are actually trapped in accepting the emergence of digital which makes humans less human, such as decreasing or even losing ethics, morals and culture.

Simple example; When the lecturer was explaining the material, quite a few students were busy playing with their gadgets; check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and others without caring that the lecturer is explaining or talking. This is an ethics that is no longer a priority.

Referring to these ethical, moral and cultural values, the biggest challenge is how individuals can be ready to accept this digital cultural era.

The conclusion is how to make individuals think intelligently in the emergence of the digital cultural era, because if not, the digital cultural era will cause a decline in human values themselves.(Source : winstartlink)
